Gregory Bal has been serving University of Iowa students at Student Legal Services since 2007. Earning his J.D. at Drake University Law School, Greg proceeded to serve as a defense attorney in United States Army JAG corps for seven years where he gained invaluable and extensive experience dealing with high profile criminal cases. Upon returning to Iowa, Greg served as a public defender for six years before his appointment as our Supervising Attorney. Additionally, he is currently a member of the American Association of Law Schools, the Clinical Legal Education Association, the National Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Legal Aid Defenders Association, the Global Alliance For Justice Education, the Iowa Association for Justice, and the Iowa Bar Association. In his free time, Greg is an avid photographer and has received national and state recognition for his work including a selection by the New York Times for their photo collection Documenting the Decade.
Chris Malloy began serving University of Iowa Students at Student Legal Services in May of 2012. A 2004 magna cum laude graduate of the University Wisconsin Law School, Chris practiced criminal and civil law in state and federal courts in Madison, Wisconsin before moving to Iowa. Chris also formerly taught undergraduate courses in Business Law and Criminal Law as an adjunct faculty member at Upper Iowa University’s Madison center, and studied international law at the University of Paris-Assas in Paris, France. He is a member of the Iowa and Wisconsin Bar Associations, the American Bar Association and the Order of the Coif, and serves as a Judge in mock trial competitions at the University of Iowa College of Law. In addition to English, he speaks French and Spanish, and in his spare time he enjoys training for marathons and reading about human population genetics.
