Phase 1 of the IMU renovation is complete, allowing all visitors to experience the new and improved IMU. The brand new IMU Bookstore, Credit Union, and Main Lounge are bigger and better than ever, giving both staff and students more room to enjoy their time no matter what they're doing.
About the Iowa Memorial Union
Thousands of students, faculty, and staff visit the IMU every day, making it a central part of campus life. Get involved with any of the hundreds of student activities overseen by the Office of Student Life. Get your textbooks and apparel at the newly-renovated University Book Store, or visit the Union Market for groceries and conveniences.
Phase 1 of IMU Renovation Complete!
Click here for a slideshow of the Phase I renovations. The building was built in 1925 and Phase I marks its 5th renovation. The union has an additional 13,860 square feet addressing student needs, enhanced student organization office space, a new art gallery, and improved building circulation. Enhancements include:
- The Hubbard Pavilion: Three-story infill space on east side of IMU.
- Hubbard Commons: new Campus Information Center, University Box Office, Bijou Theater, student gallery space, War Memorial wall, formal fireplace lounge, central staircase and elevator to improve accessibility.
- New Student Organization Office Suite, UISG Office and Student Lounge Space.
- The Hawkeye (formerly the Wheelroom) with a snack shop, plasma TVs, ping-pong, foosball, and pool tables.
- The CopyHawk: full service copy center
- New IMU Black Box Theater (open early spring).
- Restored Main Lounge with new carpeting and paint, improved lighting, and four fireplaces.
