Mission Statement

The UI Cultural and Resource Centers provide intra- and cross-cultural education, leadership and organizational development opportunities, social justice education and change, a "home away from home" for students, and a safe space for cultural and psychosocial development. The Centers compliment the academic mission of the University by enhancing students' experiences inside and outside of the classroom.

Philosophical Framework

Our work is education.

  1. Our work has a focus on both intracultural and cross-cultural exchange, dialogues, programs services and activities
  2. Our work supports the academic mission of The University of Iowa by facilitating the provision of appropriate curricular-support programs and services
  3. Our work is to connect our constituents in the Iowa City and surrounding areas and The University of Iowa community in a mutually supportive way
  4. Our work is to promote and implement social justice change at The University of Iowa and in our surrounding communities
  5. Our work is to provide a safe environment, characterized by challenge and support, to foster both cultural and psychosocial development of University of Iowa students
  6. Our work is to foster a “home away from home” environment for our constituents in  The University of Iowa community, with a primary focus on students
  7. Our work is informed by the belief that all forms of oppression are interconnected and in order to end one, we must work on ending them all
  8. Our work is to enhance both leadership and organizational development of constituent students and organizations

The goal of education is transformation. Our work in the UI Cultural and Resource Centers contributes to the transformation of students. This work is grounded in effective practices that result in measurable outcomes.
