When is Family Weekend?Family Weekend is scheduled for November 6-8, 2009. All of the official UI Family Weekend events will occur in or around the Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa Campus.
How do I sign up for Family Weekend?If you would like to attend any of the official UI Family Weekend events, you must register and pay the non-refundable $60 registration fee by October 23, 2009 by using a credit card to register online at our secure site. Registration is closed.
What do I get for my non-refundable $60 registration fee?The $60 registration fee gives each family:
· 3 tickets to the Friday night
Night Hawks event
· 3 tickets to Saturday’s Gameday Breakfast
· 3 tickets to the Saturday night performance of mentalist, Paul Draper
· Login ID and password to potentially purchase football tickets from the Family Weekend allotment while they are available.
Does my University of Iowa student have to pay to come to the Family Weekend events?Yes, anyone who wants to attend the official UI Family Weekend events must have a ticket, including UI students. Additional tickets may be purchased online at the time of registration, or at a later time using your original confirmation number.
Will you mail our Family Weekend event tickets?The tickets that are included in the
non-refundable $60 Registration Fee will need to be picked up in person either by you or your UI student at the Welcome Packet Pick-up on Friday, November 6, or Saturday, November 7. Details about the Welcome Packet Pick-up will be on the Events page of the FW’09 website. If you ordered additional tickets or Family Weekend t-shirts, these should also be picked up at this time.
Does Family Weekend have hotel rooms blocked for the families of new students?No, Family Weekend does not block off hotel rooms for the families of new students. Go to the Travel link from the Family Weekend website where you will find links to the Iowa City Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Cultural Corridor, and the Cedar Rapids Convention & Visitors Bureau. Some area hotels keep waiting lists of interested potential guests in the event other room blocks are released and rooms become available; be sure to ask about this possibility when you call the hotel. Most of the Iowa City & Coralville hotels and motels require a two night stay on football weekends, and the room rates are typically higher than on non-football game weekends. Cedar Rapids hotels usually do not require a two night minimum stay, but there may be exceptions.
What else is there to do during Family Weekend?University of Iowa Dance Marathon kindly invites you to attend a fundraising brunch to support kids with cancer treated at University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. One of the most successful and largest student-run organizations on campus, UI Dance Marathon works to raise awareness and financial support for children and families treated for cancer at University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Since 1994 Dance Marathon has become one of the largest student philanthropies in the United States and has raised over $7.5 million. During the brunch students, staff, and patients will share their UI Dance Marathon stories and experiences.

Other department-sponsored activities or eventsSome Colleges or Department programs at the University of Iowa may also host events during Family Weekend. We are working to gather their information and list it on our website for your convenience. These events may be limited to the families of students admitted to their particular College or Program; we will have someone listed for you to contact if you have questions about that particular event.
How do we get tickets to the football game?Family Weekend has been allotted 1000 football tickets by the UI Athletic Ticket Office, which will be made available only to those families that have registered for Family Weekend, and who have paid the
non-refundable registration fee. You may attempt to purchase the allotted football tickets from the UI Athletic Ticket Office after the
Family Weekend tickets go on-sale Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 7:00AM, and will be available only while supplies last. Registrants will be allowed to purchase up to
four (4) tickets per registered family. Please note: Registration with Family Weekend will be verified before the football tickets are sent out by the UI Athletic Ticket Office. Using the same name to purchase football tickets that was used to register for Family Weekend will help to prevent a mistaken cancellation of your football ticket order.If it is
VERY important that you get tickets to the game, you may want to explore other options, such as contacting the UI Athletic Ticket Office to purchase a 3-game package, add your name to their Season Ticket Holder mailing list, or frequently visit their ticketing website at
Hawkeyesports.com for single game tickets. If single game tickets are available, they will go on sale in mid-July. However, it is best to contact the UI Athletic Ticket Office directly (1-800-IA-HAWKS) with any questions. Please go to our Football link on the FW’09 website for additional information regarding parking and what is and is NOT allowed into historic Kinnick Stadium for the game.
How much are football tickets? Can we sit with our student? Where will our seats be? What time is the game?Football tickets for the Iowa/Northwestern game will be $52 each. If your UI student has purchased a student season ticket, they will be seated in the student section. If it is very important that your student sits with you, you will need to buy them a non-student ticket. Seats will be assigned from the “best available” at the time of purchase, and may be in or near an end zone. The time of kick-off is announced by the Athletic Department as late as 10 days before the game.
