Two-day, off campus retreat held in August for student leaders interested in fostering collaboration across campus. Participants leave SLI with an action plan and a commitment to advance the quality of student life at Iowa.
Participants are selected for their interest and potential in fostering a collaborative approach to leadership at The University of Iowa. The Relational Leadership Model, which focuses on relationship building as the foundation to making change via leadership, informs the SLI's design.
The institute incorporates leadership assessment inventories, networking and collaborating opportunities, brainstorming exercises, individual reflection, large group discussions, and action plan development into the two-day experience. All participants will leave the SLI with an action plan and commitment to The University of Iowa community.
SLI occurs every August before the start of fall academic classes.
This experience requires full engagement and participation in order to maximize the potential outcomes.

What? The 8th Annual Student Leadership Institute (SLI) sponsored by the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership
When? From Noon on Monday, July 30th through Tuesday, July 31st by 3:00pm
Where? Crooked Creek Camp in Washington, Iowa. We will depart from the IMU
Why? The purpose of SLI is to create “synergy” among UI student leaders and student organizations. Synergy occurs when two or more individuals or organizations work together and the result of their work is greater than the sum of their individual effects. The activities and discussions that will occur at the SLI are aimed at developing organizations and effecting positive change at The University of Iowa.
