More than 27 million men, women, and children are currently victims of human trafficking. Ministries campus-wide have gathered together to plan an evocative week about human trafficking and bonded slavery world-wide, and will be coming to The Iowa Memorial Union for their main event on Wednesday, November 11th. We welcome John Richmond as the speaker for this topic. He currently works for the Department of Justice and has served a number of years as IJM's field director in Chennai, India where he pioneered IJM's work in fighting bonded labor. Mark your calendar for November 11th at 7:30pm for this event!
In 1990, a massive star ship bearing an alien population, nicknamed "The Prawns," appeared over Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty years later, the initial welcome by the human population has faded. The refugee camp where the aliens were located has deteriorated into a militarized ghetto called District 9, where they are confined and exploited. In 2010, the munitions corporation, Multi-National United, is contracted to forcibly evict the population with operative Wikus van der Merwe in charge. In this operation, Wikus is exposed to an alien chemical and must rely on the help of his only two new 'Prawn' friends.
