Start a Student Organization
If you can't find an organization that suits your interests, you are welcome to create your own. The process is easy.
Creating a New Student Organization:
- Recruit 5 or more persons, of which 51% are students.
- Fill out the New Student Org Recognition Form. Print this out.
- Fill out the Student Recognition Activity Questionnaire. Print this out.
- Create a constitution using the Constitutional Guidelines provided.
- Submit Recognition Form, Activity Questionnaire, and 2 copies of your Constitution to one of the following:
- Recreation Services, E-216 Field House (If your proposed organization involves sports, team sports, rigorous physical games/competition,recreational activities)
- The Office of Student Life, Rm. 145 Iowa Memorial Union (If your proposed organization is seeking recognition through an academic program, department or college, and you also seek recognition from the University of Iowa Student Government)
- If your organization is not a sport or recreational activity, and only seeks recognition from the University of Iowa Student Government, return this form to the Office of Student Life, Rm. 145 Iowa Memorial Union
