Ramadan Learning Series: Iftar Nights

Friday, February 21, 2025
Ramadan Learning Series: Iftar Nights

The Ramadan Learning Series: Iftar Nights is a series of four events organized by the Educational/Professional Islamic Community (EPIC) at the University of Iowa during the holy month of Ramadan. Taking place on March 8th, March 15th, March 22nd, and March 29th, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, these events aim to foster a sense of community among students while offering an opportunity to learn about Ramadan and Islamic culture. Each gathering will be hosted at the Women’s Resource and Action Center (WRAC) and will feature an Iftar dinner followed by a brief educational session about Ramadan’s significance and Islamic traditions. The series is designed to bring together students to engage in meaningful discussions, build connections, and celebrate the month of Ramadan. Throughout the Iftar nights, attendees will participate in a variety of activities aimed at enhancing their understanding of Ramadan and Islam. These will include trivia about the history and practices of Ramadan, Islamic discussions focusing on themes such as fasting, charity, and prayer, and interactive sessions where participants can learn how to pray. These activities are intended to provide valuable insights into the spiritual, cultural, and community aspects of Ramadan, creating a welcoming environment for both Muslims and non-Muslims to engage with Islamic traditions. To ensure a smooth and enriching experience, several pieces of equipment will be required at the event location. These include Islamic prayer mats for prayer sessions, tables and chairs for the Iftar meal, projector and screen for educational presentations, and audio equipment for clear communication during the discussions. Most of these are already found at the WRAC. We have from previous events some items such as prayer mats, but need to accommodate for a larger group. The target audience for these events is primarily students at the University of Iowa, particularly those interested in learning more about Ramadan, Islamic culture, or looking to connect with the Muslim community. Due to space limitations at WRAC, the events will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is encouraged to secure a spot.

From Saturday, March 22, 2025 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM CDT at WRAC.
