Multicultural and International Student Support and Engagement is committed to supporting student success on the University of Iowa campus through planned activities at the five MISSE areas, annual diversity programs, and student organization events.

MISSE provides a “Home Away From Home” atmosphere for many students.  Each of the areas has a nickname that most students know them by: the Afro-American Cultural Center is the Afro House, the Latino Native American Cultural Center is LNACC, the Asian Pacific American Cultural Center is APACC, the Pride Alliance Center, known affectionately as the Pride House, and the International Student Support and Engagement, known as ISSE.

The four UI Cultural Centers (Afro House, LNACC, APACC, and the Pride House) are located on the west side of campus, on (or near) Melrose Avenue, and the ISSE area has a landing space on the east side of campus in the IMU.

The Cultural Centers can be utilized by any UI student for hangout spaces. The MISSE areas also provide intra- and cross-cultural education, leadership and organizational development opportunities, social justice education, and change. The MISSE areas complement the academic mission of the University by enhancing students’ experiences inside and outside of the classroom.
